Influence of the polarity of the medium on the phototransfer of the proton in the ion pairs of aromatic amines with acids
Description
The influence on the polarity of the solvent (aliphatic nitriles) on the phototransfer of a proton in ion pairs produced by the interaction of aromatic amines with acids was studied. A decrease in the polarity of the solvent leads to a decrease in the rate constant of phototransfer of a proton. Solvation of the original ion pair and the transition complex is evidently an equilibrium process. The dipole moment of the transition state is close to the dipole moment of the excited complex with a hydrogen bond (the product of phototransfer of a proton)
