Practical application of quality control through commissioning testing with conventional X-ray unit TuR D800-4

Description

The aim of this work is to present the results of the pilot commissioning testing and to create baseline values for comparison for the following routine testing with diagnostic x-ray unit TuR D800-4; to carry out comparable measurements with x-ray analyzer Barracuda and x-ray meter Mult-O-Meter. The parameters of the two instruments (x-ray analyzer and x-ray meter) were compared by simultaneous exposure of their detectors in a collimated x-ray field with tube voltage from 50 to 110 kV with step 10 kV, and tube load 50 mAs. Six exposures were carried out for each value of the voltage. The results of the comparison measurements of tube voltage and dose are shown. More significant difference of the voltage display is seen at the low and moreover at the upper limit of the operational range of the instruments. Mult-O-Meter is useful for quick measurements because it is light and easy to use, and Barracuda has the possibility to measure more parameters and a software which makes easy processing and backup of data. It is concluded that the process of conducting of commissioning testing of a diagnostic x-ray unit is voluminous, time consuming and expensive. An Act for patient protection during medical exposure is due to be ratified in Bulgaria. It will require the implementation of QC in diagnostic radiology in the country
