Effect of gamma irradiation on the removal of fulvic acid in landfill leachate by coagulation

Description
A large fraction of fulvic acid-related compounds in the leachate drained from landfill disposal sites is not efficiently removed by conventional coagulation treatment. The removal of the fulvic acid fractions with the coagulation treatment in combination with gamma irradiation under the anaerobic conditions was examined. It was found that the fulvic acid fractions were effectively removed by the combination method. When a fulvic acid solution (COD 700 ppm) of pH 2.0 was irradiated at a dose of 75 kGy and then coagulated with a concentration of 300 ppm ferric chloride, about 80 % organic substances were removed.
