A high voltage, high current cyrogenic bushing for the Westinghouse LCP magnet main leads

  • 1. Westinghouse Electric Corp., Pittsburgh, PA

Description

A satisfactory method for producing large helium leak tight insulating bushings for use at 4 K. Main lead design is illustrated, specifically the LCP coil main lead location and assembly cross section. Bushing geometry is described. Cryogenic test of busing mockup includes illustrations of the main lead bushing test piece cross section and the main lead cryogenic test arrangement. Test data are presented in graphs showing main lead test, cooldown liquid nitrogen temperature and cooldown from liquid nitrogen temperature to liquid helium temperature
