On particle - nucleus scattering
Description
Particle scattering from a target nucleus is considered in a three-body picture. A prescription is developed to obtain an approximate practical solution to the basic projectile-bound target nucleon amplitude, assuming the nucleon-core amplitude to be dominated by its bound-state pole. Assuming-particle model for the target nucleus, the π-He4 elastic cross-section is evaluated in the first-order multiple scattering theory adopting out prescription. A rather good quantitative description of the experimental data is obtained for pion energies 24 and 51 MeV respectively
