Evolution of surface abundances in cool white dwarfs
Creators
Description
Surface abundance anomalies in white dwarfs are discussed, reviewing the results of recent theoretical investigations and ground-based and satellite (Einstein, Exosat, and IUE) observations. Topics examined include the number ratio of He- vs H-dominated atmospheres, the total mass of the H layer, He abundances in DA white dwarfs, H abundances in DBA stars, metal abundances in cool He-rich atmospheres, accretion-diffusion-mixing hypotheses for DZ stars, and C abundances in DQ stars. 46 references
