Description

A non-LTE theory for resonance-line polarization due to coherent scattering is developed for the magnetic field-free case. The equation of radiative transfer for the Stokes vector is written in a form analogous to the formalism normally used for the well-explored non-LTE case of isotropic scattering and complete redistribution. This makes it possible to apply the powerful numerical methods developed in the past to solve non-LTE problems and extend them to calculate the transport of polarized light for multi-level atoms. Abstract (German)
