Funding schemes for decommissioning nuclear power plants

Creators

  • 1. Nuclear Energy Agency, 75 - Paris (France). Nuclear Safety Div.

Description

It has been shown that decommissioning of nuclear power plants adds very little to the costs of nuclear electricity, although the absolute value of the decommissioning cost is expected to be substantial, possibly in the area of a few hundred million dollars for a 1000 MWe light water reactor. This paper provides a brief overview of the financing schemes for decommissioning nuclear power plants implemented in OECD countries. 4 refs.,2 photos
