Deuteron acceleration and nanosecond neutron pulse generation by strongly overvoltage discharges in deuterium

  • 1. Federal'nyj Rossijskij Yadernyj Tsentr, Arzamas-16 (Russian Federation)

Description

Deuteron acceleration has been realized in a gas discharge at increased deuterium pressures. The experiments have been fulfilled on the base of a high-voltage (250-800 kV) pulse generator of the nanosecond range. Neutron pulses were detected in diodes with a titanium-tritium target. The pulse duration was 2.3±0.4 ns at the maximal neutron yield of 1.5x106 neutrons/pulse. The DT neutrons nanosecond pulses may be used for calibration of instruments intended for detecting fast nuclear-physical processes. 19 refs.; 7 figs.; 1 tab
