Ten years of research at German Electron Synchrotron DESY
Description
The German Electron Synchrotron DESY Research Institute in Hamburg holds an important position in international high energy physics. Equipped with the 6 GeV electron synchrotron and the DORIS intersecting storage ring, DESY has achieved considerable success in the last ten years in detecting and observing elementary particles. A particulary noteworthy technical achievement is the PLUTO detector with its superconducting magnet, which is used in the intersecting storage ring. In this interview, Professor Dr. Schopper, Chairman of the DESY board of directors, and Professor Dr. Voss report on the work and aims of the institute. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
In der Hochenergiephysik nimmt das Forschungsinstitut 'Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY' in Hamburg eine bedeutende Position ein. Ausgeruestet mit dem 6-GeV-Elektronen-Synchrotron und dem Doppelringspeicher DORIS, hat die Froschungsarbeit beim DESY seit ueber 10 Jahren beachtliche Erfolge beim Aufspueren und Beobachten von Elementarteilchen erzielt. Technische Spitzenleistung im Doppelspeicherring ist der Detektor PLUTO mit einem supraleitenden Magnet. Prof. Dr. Schopper, Vorsitzender des DESY-Direktoriums, und Prof. Dr. Voss aeussern sich in einem Interview ueber Arbeit und Ziele dieses Instituts. (orig.)Additional details
