Single column ion chromatographic determination of alkali, alkaline earth and transition metals in UO2, ThO2 using tartaric acid and oxalic acid as eluent

Description
A single column method for the simultaneous determination of alkali, alkaline earth, and transition metals in UO2 and ThO2 is described in this paper. Mobile phase composition was optimised to 1mM tartaric acid + 0.75mM oxalic acid for the separation and quantification of twelve cations Cu2+, Li+, Na+, NH4+, Ni2+, K+, Zn2+, Co2+, Mn2+, Mg2+, Ca2+ and Sr2+ using Metrosep Cation 1-2 column and non suppressed conductivity detection. This methodology is applied for the determination of above ions in UO2 and ThO2 after the major matrix separation by solvent extraction with TBP/ TOPO in CCl4. (author)
