Description
The absolute activity of a sample of the long-lived nuclide 59Ni, produced from cobalt by 17 MeV protons, was measured using a Xe-filled X-ray counter; the number of 59Ni atoms was determined by isotope dilution mass-spectrometry. A value of (7.6 +- 0.5) x 104 y for the half-life of 59Ni was determined from the specific activity. (orig.)
