Science education partners: How to do more with less
Description
About 40 years ago, in response to science education and manpower needs articulated by the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and its laboratories, university consortia were formed in various regions throughout the United States. Through these consortia, large numbers of university faculty and students participated in the research efforts of the AEC laboratories. Many things have changed over the years: the AEC has been merged with other agencies to become the Department of Energy; some university consortia have dissolved while others continue to thrive; and today there are new challenges in science education and manpower needs. The efforts of the Associated Western Universities, Inc. to meet these challenges through science education partnerships will be described
