Total linear mode conversion for confluence at nonzero k

Description
Using the asymptotic theory of nth order linear differential systems with slowly varying coefficients, it is shown quite generally that a confluent wave mode must undergo total conversion (no reflection via its branch of opposite sign) to the modes with which it is confluent in k (not k2), this holding asymptotically for any confluence at a nonzero value of k. The conversion which takes place around the lower hybrid resonance density is dealt with by way of example
