Description

An account is given of the causes of corrosion in the Incoloy 800 tubes of the steam generators of PWR type reactors in the Federal Republic of Germany. Information is presented on the following aspects: temperature effect; mass transfer rate of corrosion products; effect of flow-velocity; effect of pH; effect of oxygen content; resistance of magnetite protective layers to corrosion; composition of corrosion products in water-steam-circuit. Ways of avoiding corrosion-erosion are discussed. (U.K.)
