Usefulness of unenhanced CT in the diagnosis of appendicitis
Creators
- 1. Osaka Medical Coll., Takatsuki (Japan)
Description
Unenhanced CT scanning was performed in 20 patients with appendicitis. CT findings were compared retrospectively with surgical results. CT showed positive findings (abnormal appendix, appendicolithiasis, pericecal inflammation, abscess) in 100% of cases and enabled diagnosis in 90% of cases. Cases with pericecal inflammation or abscess were phlegmonous or perforative appendicitis. CT also showed the extent and the complications of appendicitis. (author)
