Description

An important aspect of energy efficiency is keeping the larger, cheap electricity generators working at high levels of availability. This paper details some of the operational problems encountered in achieving this aim and their solutions especially in N.W. England and N. Wales. The problems of the two advanced gas-cooled reactors at Hartlepool and Heysham-1 with superheater header transition joint cracking and tube leaks at the Hartlepool reactor are also mentioned. The internal inspection and repair of Magnox reactors is also summarized. (UK)
