Radiation induced luminescence properties of Ce-doped K2O-Al2O3-P2O5 glass

Description
We evaluated the dosimetric and scintillation properties of the Ce-doped K2O-Al2O3-P2O5 glasses. The composition of the host were 90(KPO3)-10Al2O3, and the glass samples doped with different concentration of Ce (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5 1.0) were synthesized by the melt quenching method. Ce-doped samples indicated high transmittance at the wavelength longer than 350 nm, and it showed high transmittance reached to 80-90% in visible and near infrared ranges. The decay function of PL in the Ce-doped samples indicated the decay time constants due to the typical Ce3+ 5d-4f transition. Even in the case of scintillation, the decay time with similar constants to PL was confirmed, and the emission in scintillation would be considered to originate from Ce3+. From the integration of TSL glow curves, we evaluated the dose response properties. The Ce-doped samples showed better characteristics than the undoped sample, and the sensitivity ranged from 0.01 mGy to 1 Gy in the 0.5% Ce-doped samples. (author)
