Description
The methodology and some results of a detailed analysis in the selected main rooms at the First Unit of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant are presented. A detailed engineering analysis and computer fire modeling were performed for the main rooms which had not passed the screening algorithms, to assess their compliance with fire protection requirements. It has been stated that not all rooms of the Ignalina NPP First Unit fully comply with the international recommendations for new nuclear plants, but they have an acceptable safety level, considering the credit that can be taken from manual fire fighting and other alternative means. A set of suggestions was recommended how to improve the fire safety of different rooms, highlighting the organizational and quality assurance means. Fire hazard analysis at the Ignalina NPP Second Unit and other plants can be performed also, but with essentially less inputs using the experience of such analysis at the First Unit, its methodic, means of analysis and results, considering the specific features of the Second Unit.
