FRG aid for Pakistan's bomb

The history of Pakistan's nuclear development is a major example of the clandestine acquisition of reprocessing and uranium enrichment equipment in defiance of the international non-proliferation regime. Pakistan is now believed to have the capability to make nuclear weapons, leading to fears of an arms race between India and Pakistan, or a pre-emptive Israeli bombing against what is thought could become the 'Islamic Bomb'. The assistance Pakistan has received in developing its nuclear capability from the German nuclear industry, and the attempts by the German Government and the United States to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons in South Asia is discussed.
