Application of diffusion tensor imaging of white matter in acute carbon monoxide poisoning

Description
Objective: To explore the application of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) in acute carbon monoxide poisoning (ACOP). Methods: Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) was performed on patients with ACOP and healthy volunteers. The FA and ADC in the genu of the corpus callosum and fronto-pontine white matter tracts were compared by t-test. Results: The FA of ACOP in the genu of the corpus callosum (0.7632 ± 0.1206) and fronto-pontine white matter tracts (0.3299 ± 0.1029) was significantly lower (P = 0, 0.008) than that of normal control (0.8329 ± 0.0481, 0.3800 ± 0.1036). The ADC of ACOP in the genu of the corpus callosum (8.4594 ± 1.5930) and fronto-pontine white matter tracts (7.9261 ± 1.1602) was significantly higher (P = 0) than that of normal control (7.8117 ± 0.6160, 7.3645 ± 0.4879). Conclusion: The FA and ADC on DTI reflect the white matter function of patients with ACOP for timely diagnosis and treatment. (authors)
