Photon and jets with CMS at LHC: from calibration to measurement

This thesis documents a study of events where a photon is produced with a jet, in proton-proton collisions produced at the LHC and detected by the CMS experiment. The first part of the thesis focusses on the extraction of the jet energy correction in CMS. It is shown how photon + jet events are exploited in this context, thanks to the balance between jet and photon and the good quality of photon reconstruction. Different methods are discussed, and the results obtained with 2016 data are shown: the jet calibration extracted from such results is used by all CMS published analyses using such data. The second part documents the measurement of the photon + b-jet cross-section measurement, as a function of the photon transverse momentum and photon pseudo-rapidity. This measurement is then compared to LO and NLO predictions with Madgraph, PYTHIA and amc[at]NLO generators. (author)

Cette these porte sur l'analyse des donnees issues des collisions proton-proton au LHC, et enregistrees par le detecteur CMS, et etudie en particulier les evenements ou un photon est produit en association avec un jet. La premiere partie de cette these est dediee a l'extraction des corrections en energie des jets dans l'experience CMS, en particulier a l'aide d'evenements avec un photon et un jet, en exploitant la balance en impulsion transverse entre le jet et le photon et la bonne qualite de la reconstruction des photons. Les differentes methodes sont presentees ainsi que les resultats obtenus pour les donnees collectees en 2016. Les calibrations qui sont extraites de ces etudes sont utilises par toutes les analyses publiees par la collaboration CMS utilisant les donnees 2016. La deuxieme partie presente la mesure de la section efficace doublement differentielle de production d'evenements ou un photon est emis en association avec un jet issu d'un quark bottom en fonction de l'impulsion transverse et de la pseudo-rapidite du photon. Cette mesure est ensuite comparee a differentes predictions a l'aide des generateurs Madgraph, PYTHIA et amc[at]NLO. (auteur)
