Low swelling behavior of V-Ti-Cr-Si-type alloys

Description

Swelling behavior of V-25Ti-15Cr-1Si and V-5Ti-5Cr-1Si alloys containing Al and Y is described. Disk specimens of these alloys were irradiated to about 40 dpa at temperatures from 679 to 873 K in the Fast Flux Test Facility. Microstructural observations and compositional analysis were performed. The swelling levels of these alloys were found to be very low. Even at the condition of highest swelling, that is, V-5Ti-5Cr-1Si alloy irradiated at 679 K, the level was as low as 0.1%. The dislocation microstructures depended on both irradiation temperatures and alloy compositions. At higher irradiation temperatures, fine precipitates were observed which had not been observed before irradiation. (orig.)
