Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan now have a total of 61 operating commercial nuclear units while Indonesia has started a feasibility study with the eventual aim of building nuclear power plants. In Thailand the Electrical Generating Authority has publicly announced its intention to install 2000 MWe of nuclear power in the early part of the next century. (author)
