Occurrence of low-radioactive lead deposits in the petroleum industry

Description
Low radioactive deposits that contain 210Pb has been detected in relation to gas production on Norwegian shelf. Lead deposits are transported through the production system supported by 222Rn or unsupported. The radon supported transport mainly happens in the gas phase and can occur over long distances. Unsupported lead is primary transported in the water phase. Radioactive doses for personnel offshore and onshore from handling components covered with lead deposits will usually be low. There is, however, a risk of inhalation of radioactive particles from the deposits. (EHS)
