Extraction of hydrobromic acid and uranyl bromide by trioctylphosphine oxide in cyclohexane and chloroform

Description
The extraction of HBr and UO2Br2 by solutions of trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) in cyclohexane and chloroform was examined. From distribution data it was concluded that bisolvates HBr.2TOPO and UO2Br2.2TOPO were extracted, and the formation of CHCl3.TOPO complex is indicated. The corresponding concentration quotients were calculated. A short description is given on the experimental procedure (the standard solvent extraction technique was used) after which the results are given on the three mean topic: extraction of hydrobromic acid; investigation on the existence of the chloroform - TOPO complex: extraction of uranyl bromide.
