Magnetic properties of rare earth molybdates (4) of the composition Ln2Mo2O7(Ln=Sm, Gd, Y) with pyrochlore structure

Description
Methods of magnetization and magnetic susceptibility determination are used to study magnetic properties of polycrystalline samples of Ln2Mo2O7 (Ln=Sm, Gd, Y) and nonstoichiometric phases Ln1.67V1.67Mo0.56O7(Ln=Dy, Y) in the temperature range of 4.2-600 K. All cases follow Curie-Weiss law. Unlike Gd and Sm salts having positive value of θ constant, for Y2Mo2O7 this value is negative. Causes of deviation of experimentally determined and calculated values of magnetic moments of stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric compounds as well as absence of magnetic saturation of the latters at 4.2 K are discussed
