A lifetime measurement of hadronically produced D mesons using silicon microstrip detectors

  • 1. Max-Planck-Institut fuer Physik und Astrophysik, Muenchen (Germany, F.R.)

Description

We have performed a lifetime measurement of hadronically produced D mesons at the CERN SPS using NA11 multiparticle spectrometer and a vertex telescope consisting of silicon microstrip detectors. The following preliminary results on the lifetimes of D mesons are obtained: tau(D0)=(4.2+-1.0) 10-13 s, tau(D+-)=(8.8+-2.7) 10-13 s based on samples of 26 and 14 events, respectively
