Investigations with beagles about toxicity and radioprotective effect of the chemical radioprotection substance WR 2721

Description

The toxicity of the chemical radioprotection substance WR 2721 (S-2-(3-aminopropylamino)ethyl-thiophosphate) was examined in 25 beagles. The study showed that the toxicity of the substance increases as the dose gets higher. Between the doses 200 and 250 mg/kg of body weight, the increase of toxicity was significantly greater than could be expected on the basis of the dose difference. Until a dose of 200 mg/kg, the authors found no side effects which would have disturbed vital functions, but higher doses led to marked symptoms of intoxication. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

An 25 Beagle-Hunden wurde die chemische Strahlenschutzsubstanz WR 2721 (S-2-(3-Aminopropylamino)aethyl-thiophosphat) auf ihre Toxizitaet untersucht. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass mit zunehmend hoeherer Dosierung auch die Toxizitaet der Substanz zunimmt, wobei ein deutlicher Unterschied zwischen den Dosen 200 und 250 mg/kg Koerpergewicht gefunden werden konnte. In diesem Bereich ist die Toxizitaetszunahme auffallend staerker, als es die Dosisdifferenz erwarten liesse. Bis zu 200 mg konnten keine die vitalen Funktionen beeintraechtigenden Nebenwirkungen festgestellt werden. Hoehere Dosen fuehrten zu deutlichen Intoxikationssymptomen. (orig.)
