Effect of different doses of X-rays on the development of chromosomal aberrations and rate of their elimination from bone marrow of mice. Part 2. Chromosomal aberrations

Description

Mice of an inbred CPB-S strain, male aged 11-12 weeks were exposed to X-radiation in doses of 50, 200 and 400 R. Cytological preparations were made from bone marrow obtained from femoral bones. The material for investigations was taken 2, 8, 18, 21, 34, 32, 40, 48, 72, 96, 120 hours after irradiation. The experimental groups in each time period and the corresponding control group comprised 6 animals each. From the obtained cytological preparations 50 metaphase plates were selected for each animal carrying out quantitative and qualitative analysis of chromosomal aberrations. The following types of chromosomal damage were found: acentric chromosomal fragments, metacentric chromosomes, ring chromosomes, dicentric chromosomes. Aneuploidal and polyploidal cells were counted also. It was observed that development of chromosomal aberrations both qualitative and quantitative, depended on the dose of ionizing radiation received. It was found that the number of aneuploidal cells increased with the dose of radiation, while this correlation was not observed in the case of polyploidal cells. (author)
