Thermonuclear device

Description

Purpose: To improve the insulating performance of insulators and plasma generating efficiency by the provision of insulators having recess and ridges along the inner wall of a discharge tube and by attaching a liner having a voltage terminal to the inner end thereof. Constitution: A toroidal coil is arranged to the outside of a discharge tube in a thermonuclear device for generating uniform intense magnetic field in the direction of the toroidal configuration in plasma. Cylindrical insulators are provided at a constant interval along the inner circumferential wall of the discharge tube, a liner is attached to each of the insulators and hydrogen or the like is filled within the discharge tube. The insulator secured at its base to the inner wall surface of the discharge tube and attached at its inner end with a liner having a voltage terminal is formed over its outer peripheral surface with a recessed and ridged face to increase the distance along its surface. This can increase the dielectric withstand voltage of the insulator and improve plasma generation efficiency. (Horiuchi, T.)
