At present, intra-abdominal infections are associated with high morbidity and mortality. Infectious complications can be found in patients with severe acute pancreatitis. Infection complications can also be observed after pancreatic resection, especially when pancreatic leak is present. Sepsis is a serious complication in severe necrotic pancreatitis and as a complication after pancreatic resection. In their diagnosis and treatment is required a multidisciplinary approach and the concentration of patients in specialized centres. (author)
