CASKET, Thermal and Structural Analyses for Transport and Storage Cask

Description

1 - Description of program or function: CASKET (CASK thermal and structural analyses Evaluation code system) is designed for thermal and structural analyses for radioactive material transport and/or storage cask designs (IAEA regulatory standard type B packages, type A fissile packages etc.). It is a streamlined computer code system to perform parametric analyses on sensitivity evaluations in designing a cask and conducting its safety analysis. The main features include: - impact analysis of casks with shock absorbers; - impact analysis of casks with fins; - puncture analysis of casks; - rocking analysis of casks during seismic load. It contains in addition: - a material property data library for structural analysis of casks; - a material property data library for thermal analysis of casks; - fin energy absorption data library for impact analysis of casks with fins. 2 - Methods: A static method is used except for rocking analysis. It evaluates the acceleration and the deformation of cask bodies and the stress and the deformation of puncture bars. The following modules are used for the different computational tasks Thermal analysis: TOPAZ-2D with THERMLIB; Seismic analysis: ROCKING; Impact analysis: CRUSH 1 and 2 with IMPACLIB; Fin impact analysis: FINCRUSH with FINLIB; Puncture analysis: PUNCTURE; 3 - Restrictions on the complexity of the problem: None
