Complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds. Pt. 2

Description
A class of Calabi-Yau spaces of Euler number -6k, for many values of k, is searched to find manifolds which admit a freely acting discrete symmetry group G of order k. For such manifolds M one may construct the quotient M/G which is a Calabi-Yau manifold of Euler number -6 corresponding to three generations of particles. Surprisingly, we are able to eliminate all but three of the manifolds. Of these, one is the manifold constructed by Tian and Yau. The other two possibilities are manifolds which have χ=-48. However, we have been unable to find an explicit realization of groups of order eight. We correct also some assertions made in a recent article by Aspinwall et al. (orig.)
