X-ray emission spectrum of a recombining magnesium laser plasma
Description
The excitation of the x-ray spectra of multiply charged ions in a recombining laser plasma under various plasma expansion conditions has been studied. The results show that the line emission from regions far from the target results from recombination in a supercooled plasma. The expansion of a laser plasma is accompanied by a partial ''freezing of its ionization state. The excitation of the resonant lines of H-like ions has been shown to be caused by different physical processes in different regions of the plasma. One excitation process is the electron-impact excitation from the ground state (this mechanism operates near the target), and another is the photorecombination of electrons with nuclei (which operators far from the target)
