Study of ziconium disulfate solutions by the method of infrared spectroscopy

Description

The type and symmetry of the particles, present in aqueous solutions of Zr(SO4)2x4H2O are studied using the method of infrared spectroscopy. The spectra of solutions, containing 1-17 mass% of ZrO2 in common and heavy water are compared with the spectra of the salts Zr(SO4)2x4H2O and 3ZrO2x2SO3xnH2O. Two types of coordinated SO4-groups with low symmetry are marked in zirconium disulfate solutions. The part of end groups decreases because of the particles polymerization with the increase of the solution concentration. Total strength of Zr-So4 bond increases. In concentrated solutions Zr-OH bond is detected which testifies to hydrolysis processes or dissociation of Zr(SO4)2x4H2O particles
