Possibility of a highly monochromatic neutron polarizer

Description
A new method to obtain a highly monochromatic polarized neutron beam is proposed. The kinetic energy of neutrons changes in a static magnetic field depending on the spin direction. Although the change which corresponds to the Zeeman energy is very small in a reasonable magnetic field, the kinetic energy splitting can be fully resolved with a back-reflection monochromator-analyzer system. Practical consideration is given with an example in which Si perfect crystals are chosen as the monochromator and the analyser. (Auth.)
