Description

Excited, nonyrast states in 162Yb were populated through β+/ε decay and studied through off-beam, β-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy at the Yale moving tape collector. New coincidence data provided evidence for a substantial revision of the previous level scheme and the elimination of a previously reported first excited 0+ state. The revised level scheme of 162Yb is compared to the predictions of the X(5) critical point symmetry. Good agreement is obtained for most energies while significant discrepancies exist with the current values of intraband B(E2) values
