The risks of atomic power in a globalized world

Creators

  • 1. BUND e.V., Berlin (Germany)

Description

Nuclear power is back on the agenda, even in the papers submitted for this conference. BUND, a German conservationist organisation, is strictly against nuclear power. There is no reason for assuming that nuclear power will protect our climate; instead, it will prevent or delay the necessary steps that must be taken to ensure sustainable power supply on a long-term basis. Most important of all, the use of nuclear power is irresponsible. There is always the risk of another disaster, whether from peaceful or military uses, and there is no safe option for ultimate storage of high-activity nuclear waste. (orig.)
