Second-class currents and Δs in ν(ν-bar)p elastic scattering

Description

ν(ν-bar)p elastic scattering is sensitive to the magnitude, Δs, of the strange quark's presence within the proton. But it is also sensitive to the strength of second-class currents so we must be assured that the effect of such currents, having regard for the experimental upper limit to their strength, is negligible before extracting Δs from such scattering. It is shown that searches for Δs through ν(ν-bar)p elastic scattering are unlikely to be troubled by this consideration below neutrino energies of about 0.1 GeV but that at higher energies very serious uncertainty arises
