Long-term variations of cosmic ray intensity

  • 1. Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Leningrad

Description

At the present time we know only one possibility to reconstruct the Cosmic Ray intensity in the past. This possibility is connected with the measurements of radiocarbon abundance in the dendrochronologically dated wood samples. As the experiments carried out with the help of spacecrafts, balloons and ground apparatus show the Galactic Cosmic Ray flux essentially varies on a short time scales. The variations are caused by different astrophysical and geophysical phenomena. 14C isotope allows us to investigate these reasons on a more long time interval in comparison with direct observational possibilities
