Measurement of the magnetic moment of 39Ca by use at a polarized proton beam and NMR detection

  • 1. Stanford Univ., Calif. (USA). Dept. of Physics

Description

Polarized β-emitting 39Ca (Isup(π)=3/2+, Tsub(1/2)=0.87 s) nuclei were produced in the reaction 39K(p(pol),n)39Ca in thick polycrystalline targets of KBr, KCaBr3, and KCaI3 which served as hosts for the 39Ca nuclei. The net polarization transferred to the 39Ca nuclei was detected by measuring the asymmetry in the β-decay. The magnetic dipole moment of 39Ca was measured by NMR detection. Including a diamagnetic correction μ=1.0216(2)nm is obtained. (Auth.)
