Heavy-ion transfer reactions as a unique probe of quantal many-body systems

We argue that important aspects of quantal many-body behavior may be uniquely studied via transfer reactions with very heavy ions which populate strongly collective states. As an example, we explore using two-particle transfer to test the effect of collective angular momentum on pairing correlations in heavy nuclei
