Preparation of 201Tl from lead irradiated by protons with ∼ 65 MeV energy
Description
Yields of 201Tl, 200Tl and 202Tl from targets of natural lead and enriched 206Pb, 207Pb, irradiated by protons with ∼ 65 MeV energy were measured. It is shown that 201Tl with (15±2)x107 Bq/μAxh yield and 95-96% radionuclide purity forms in a thick 206Pb(2.6 g/cm2) target. Separation of radiothallium microamounts from lead was conducted by the method of ion exchange chromatography using cation exchange resins. The chemical yield of radiothallium is ∼ 80%. Possibility of applying 201Tl prepared from 206Pb target in nuclear medicine was discussed
