Locking of MHD plasma perturbations in the T-10 tokamak

Description

Mode locking of MHD plasma kink modes, manifested as cessation (freezing) or strong suppression of the rotation of the magnetic island structure, is often observed in tokamaks and has attracted interest recently because it is correlated with the growth disruptions and because it affects the transport processes. Although the rotation of the islands can be halted at any stage of the discharge, stoppage is most frequently observed during the phase of current growth or during disruptions. Results are reported in this paper on cessation of rotation (locking) of MHD plasma perturbations in a T-10 tokamak, together with numerical simulation results. The m = 2 and m = 3 modes interact like nonlinear two dimensional oscillators, which is primarily responsible for their locking
