Description
There are strong experimental evidences of efficient electromagnetic filter operation in terms of radioactivity reduction in the primary circuit of pressurized water nuclear power plants. However, the estimated benefit depends essentially on the rate constant of corrosion products deposition. Very short apparent deposition half-lives recently reported make doubtful the results of calculational benefit estimates. The rate constant of crud deposition merits therefore greatest attention. For lack of enough certainty, the really achievable benefit is matter of a representative scale demonstration experiment. In the secondary circuit, the efficiency of electromagnetic extraction in steam generator sludge deposit reduction is chiefly amenable to high-temperature operation and increased blowdown. An analytical application of electromagnetic corrosion products extraction attracts notice. (author)
