Skeletal scintigraphy
Description
Skeletal scintigraphy is the most commonly requested isotope study in every institute of nuclear medicine because of its high sensitivity for lesion detection and the ease of surveying the entire skeleton quickly. Despite the less specificity in many clinical situations recognizable patterns of scan abnormality are seen, which often suggests a specific diagnosis. The basic osteoporotic radiopharmaceuticals are presented as well as the mechanisms of their fixation in bones and the techniques for the radio scintigraphy.
