Contribution to the study of X ray absorption in the vicinity of the Bragg angle. I - Experimental study; II - Theoretical study

Description
A first article reports an experimental photographic study of X ray absorption by crystals as X rays travel through these crystals according to a direction which is close to the Bragg incidence. The authors used aluminium crystals and then quartz crystals. The experimental apparatus is described and the resulting spectrographs obtained with curved crystals are discussed (white lines, primary extinction, secondary extinction). Results obtained with plane crystals are then discussed with a presentation of the experimental installation, of the preparation of quartz blades, of the study of transmission lines with respect to preparation. The causes of the evolution of transmission lines are discussed. The study of crystals after bending is reported. The second article reports the application of the crystal dynamic theory, and compares theoretical results with the experimental ones obtained in the case of plane crystals. The author also comments the content of publications published after his works. Abstract (French)
L'etude photographique montre qu'il existe, pour des cristaux plans de quartz, une relation entre l'aspect des lignes dues a la transmission du rayonnement X monochromatique pour lequel l'incidence, sur les plans reticulaires consideres, a lieu sous l'angle de Bragg et la perfection cristalline. Ces lignes, claires pour un cristal imparfait, se bordent d'un trait sombre, correspondant a un maximum d'intensite, qui s'accentue lorsque la perfection croit. Dans certains cas, ces cristaux conservent apres courbure des lignes, dues a la transmission, claires, bordees d'un trait sombre, analogues a celles qu'ils presentaient a l'etat plan, au lieu des lignes claires habituelles. Dans une deuxieme partie, des resultats sont deduits de la theorie dynamique des cristaux et compares aux resultats experimentaux de la premiere partie concernant les cristaux plans. Une rapide mise au point des connaissances actuelles sur le phenomene etudie est ensuite faite a la lumiere des travaux plus recents.
