Hypothetical major accidents in the nuclear power plant Barsebaeck 2

Description

On behalf of the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate a study has been performed regarding hypothetical major accidents in the nuclear power plant Barsebaeck 2. A short description is given of the plant. The principles are described of the applied reliability technology and the radiation dose distribution calculations. Reliability estimates are given for the nuclear shut-down systems, for the post-operation cooling systems and for the emergency cooling systems of the reactor. An event tree is given for anticipated transients. The investigated conditions of Barsebaeck 2 are compared with the U.S. plant Peach Bottom II. Calculated radiation doses for hypothetical major accidents are given. The report is concluded with a discussion of accident risks in Barsebaeck 2
