Direct radiocarbon calibration for amino acid racemization dating

Description
This note summarizes an approach for the direct calibration of amino acid racemization dating that has not previously been attempted. The method involves amino acid analyses on the HCl acid residue from the CO2 evolution procedure of radiocarbon sample preparation. The advantage of this approach is that the sample specimen and event is analysed by radiocarbon and amino acid racemization. Similarly, the samples have a common diagenetic temperature history, which reduces the uncertainty for amino acid dating. This methodology can also be applied to U-series disequilibrium dating of fossils. 10 refs., 1 tab
